UQCC Friendly Simultaneous Online Chess with IM SRINATH RAO

He is the first international master of the year! All the way from India, International Srinath Rao, currently the number 108th strongest player in his country and only in his early 20s, will knock your socks off with his amazing opening repertoire and middle game knowledge. Everyone knows that India fields many of the strongest masters to play chess, and as of the moment are ranked 4th in the number of GMs, trailing behind the US and China. The United Queens Chess Club is excited to pit him against our players this coming Sunday to see what is in store for the young lad.

With a FIDE rating of 2437, he has won or finished at the top 3 in countless tournaments including the 2016 St. Teresa Rating Open and 2018 Luzern Open in Switzerland. In the eight-round Swiss System at the St. Teresa Open held in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, he emerged as the overall winner, not suffering a single loss with an almost perfect score of 7.5 / 8. Although he was only a FIDE master and was against an International Master, it did not take him long for him to beat him head-to-head and in tiebreaks. On the other hand, in the Luzern Open, only two Indians were able to participate, and he was only the third seed. Despite those circumstances, he bested five foriegn players and only lost to the eventual champion. In the end, he bagged a silver medal with a total score of 5.5/7, a very strong finish. To finish off, he is also a chess coach who works for the King’s Chess Academy and Master Minds Academy, both reputable schools who have produced several superstars from India. He confidently and proudly trains a young girl who had blown his competitors away in the recently concluded United States National Chess Championship in California, where his student was recognized as the top in the female category.

A great chess teacher and an experienced Indian player.

UQCC Friendly Simultaneous Online Chess with FM ZSOLT KORPICS

It seems that another Fide Master from the 8th strongest chess playing nation, Hungary, dares to confront our elite team of young chess players in a 20-player simultaneous exhibition match this weekend. As of the moment, a total of 58 Grandmasters and 121 International Masters were made. One of its best players is a well-known commentator in Chess24, Peter Leko. United Queens Chess Club is happy to introduce FM Zsolt Korpics from Central Europe, Hungary!

Now, in his mid-40s, the Budapest-based master is currently a chess coach (25 years of experience and counting!), Trainor, and licensed arbiter and organizer. He officially became an international arbiter in 2004 and a FIDE instructor in 2015. Way back in his childhood chess career, FM Korpics was part of the Hungarian Under 20 Championship. Despite him being sixteen years old in the U-20 age bracket, he shared first place. In 2011, his team, HVSE-1, bagged a bronze medal against 11 teams in a 90-90 time control format at the Hungarian Team Championship. With a great career at such a young age, he was bestowed and was privileged to become the team captain of Team Kobanya SC Budapest Chess Team in the Hungarian Youth Team Championship. As he served as captain for seven years, his team won five times.

A great chess player since young. Watch him play fantastic chess.

UQCC Friendly Simultaneous Online Chess with GM ROGIC DAVOR

Another year, another round of masters to play with! To start the year right, a Croatian master with a current ELO rating of 2500 has decided to challenge our kids in a simultaneous exhibition match this weekend! He is the second Croatian grandmaster who appeared in UQCC after the famous GM Ivan Saric played in the previous year. United Queens Chess Club welcomes GM Davor Rogic of Croatia!

Grandmaster Davor Rogic has attained his title since 2005 – sixteen years already! At some point in his chess career, he reached an ELO rating of 2602 – a pretty impressive rating as he is currently the 17th strongest active player in his country. At the moment, Croatia is within the top 20 as the strongest chess playing nation. Before earning his International title in 1994, he won first at the Croatian Chess Championship, an annual national tournament. From that point on, he continued to improve and represented his country in the 33rd Chess Olympiad (1998) and 34th Chess Olympiad (2000) held in Russia and Turkey. At the 1998 Chess Olympiad, his team landed in 25th place, where IM Davor scored 1.5 out of his three games and was on the fifth board. One year before the Chess Olympiad, he bagged the fourth place in the individual category at the European Team Chess Championship, held in Pula. The playing field was rough as the England team became victorious.

Looks like this is going to be a thrilling game!

UQCC Friendly Simultaneous Online Chess with IM JOVANKA HOUSKA

Yet another British player is taking on the playing field this weekend! Under the Lichess username, ButterflyQueen, she demonstrated what it means to be an International Master, despite being a female chess player – a feat achieved by only a few ladies. She defeated most of our Filipina lady woodpushers and masters last weekend in the England Team Battle. A good friend of IM Lawrence Cooper and is a serious and amazing chess player, the United Queens Chess Club is happy to introduce our fifth female master for this year, International Master Jovanka Houska of England!

The English female chess player has held her international master title since 2005 and was the third British woman to ever successfully achieve this wonderful feat. Amazingly, not once, not twice, not thrice, but NINE times did IM Jovanka Houska dominate the field, becoming the British Women’s Champion and still the reigning champion since 2015 – for six consecutive years! Considering her astounding achievements throughout her chess career, she had started playing chess at a young age and captured the eyes of many British players in the 2000 European Junior Championships Under 20 Girls. In 1998, she competed in the same tournament and finished third. Two years later (2020) in the same category, she bagged a gold medal and secured her third and final norm to attain her Women Grandmaster title. Six years later, she was awarded by the English Federation as the English Chess Player of the year as she was recognized as being the most active; she was the first female to ever attain the award. Not only was she strong individually, but she is a good team player as well. In 2015, she represented England as the board one player and fought against a field of 30 countries in the 20th European Women’s Team Chess Championship. Pressure did not get the best of IM Jovanka as she finished with an almost-perfect score of 8 points out of 9 rounds with no losses and two draws, securing her a silver medal in the individual category. Her long history of chess gradually opened more doors and eventually led her in becoming a chess author herself, writing three famous chess books about the Caro-Kann and Scandinavian Defense, and was the co-author of the novel, The Mating Game.

Watch the first female International Master here in UQCC.

UQCC Friendly Simultaneous Online Chess with IM LAWRENCE COOPER

This is the man who was working behind the scenes in organizing the England Team Battle as a successful event last weekend. An experienced and FIDE-recognized Organizer and Arbiter, chess coach and member of the English Chess Federation (International Director and Junior Director) – he is a man who is highly involved with chess. Now, from being an organizer to a guest master for the United Queens Chess Club, please welcome International Master Lawrence Cooper of England!

For the last 40 years as a chess player, he has experienced competing both on a national and international level. He received his cherished international title exactly 20 years ago, when he earned his three IM norms in 1995, 1996 and 1999. On his journey to his first IM norm, he competed in the Lloyds Bank Maters Open in 1987, where he scored 6.5/10 and nine of them were IMs! He was close in winning the prize in a field with MIchael Adams and future Chess Champion Anand. With his long history as a player, he was recognized by his teammates and privileged to be the captain five times. He coached and captained the Welsh women’s team at the 2016 Baku Olympiad, spearheaded the men’s team at the 2009 & 2011 European Team Championship and represented England in the 2010 Chess Olympiad as team captain. It all started when he led his team to victory in the national championship way back in 1992. In a more recent outing, he went straight to the finals of the UK Blitz Tournament by finishing strong as the 1st runner up, trailing behind by GM Howell and beating the second-seeded player, IM Ameet Ghasi with an overall record of 12/15. In the finals, he was the oldest player; however, it did not mean that he was any more rusty than the others. After fifteen rounds, he had a performance rating of 2287 and landed in the middle of the pack with a score of 7/15. Lastly, to celebrate his birthday last July 2020, he conducted a birthday blitz and won against GM Peter Svidler, the 27th strongest player in the world – a memorable feat on a very special occasion.

Experience first-hand his unbelievable chess repertoire.
